Single Stroke 7 | 4X Per Side | Explanation
Welcome to your 7 Stroke Roll Drum Lesson!
The 7 Stroke Roll is such a solid foundational drum rudiments, great for beats, fills, building fast hand speed or just as a snare drum exercise. In this course we're going to show you the basics on how this rudiment is played, and what you can do to apply it to the drum set.
Seven Stroke Roll Sticking.
The sticking is very straight forward:
R L R L R L R or L R L R L R L
Again, just like the Single Stroke 4, this is done with triplets. The key here really is spacing and timing, so we would highly advise that you spend a small amount of time watching the video to get the rhythm into your ear and then just in and start your repetitions.
Elements to focus on:
Playing in the center of the head. When playing easier drum rudiments such as this, it's very easy to space out and not take them seriously. Don't do it! Use this as an opportunity to focus on getting a perfect stroke, getting the stick straight up and down, and playing exactly center on the snare drum.
Getting repetitions. Think about this as your workout. We're not trying to just go through the motions here and check this rudiment off the list. The goal here is to get your muscles moving and burning so that when you walk away from this session you feel it!
Take the same approach as you would in the gym. You should be tired when you finish this session, and you should have a TON of reps under your belt!
Drum Beats and Fills.
The drum beats and fills in this course are all based around a basic 8th rock beat, so that you can more easily focus on integrating the Seven Stroke Roll into your playing.
