DRUMMING

What are drum rudiments?

Rudiments are the foundational hand patterns of drummer, stemming from a military marching tradition. With the advent of the drum set, rudimental snare drummers applied their skills to a brand new way of being percussive. Because of this, rudiments are the core of drum set playing, and are still being used in our modern era.

We highly advise that you spend a good deal of time practicing your rudiments and learning how to apply them to the drum set with our courses. You can also learn more about rudiments here.

How much should I practice?

This is a great question, and a difficult one to answer:

Put simply, when practicing to the play along videos, we advise you play each video 2-3x. This means that even if you've able to go faster, you still play each video 2-3x to gain repetitions.

Another factor to consider: Aside from fundamental technique, there is no secret to getting better at drums. The more you practice, the better you'll get. Using Practice Drumming will help you make sure you're practicing smart.

Are these lessons for beginning drummers?

Definitely! We made sure that we started all of our exercises we're played slowly enough that beginners could digest the information and all our beats are based around an 8th note rock beat.
